Station VIII

Station VIII: Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem

We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you:
Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.

Reading:

There followed after Jesus a great multitude of the people, and among them were women who bewailed and lamented him. But Jesus turning to them said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.”

Those who sowed with tears:
Will reap with songs of joy.

Reflection:

Jesus, as he continues to bear the weight of the Cross, stops to speak to the women of Jerusalem, the ones who so often bear the burdens of wisdom and well-being for their families and communities. Consider our communion of saints, those who inspire us to justice and mercy.  Select a virtual prayer card from one of our Great Cloud of Witnesses…Mothers of the Church…who guide us in this way that we walk, to sustain you in your journey. Consider asking what each one offers to you as you journey the Way of the Cross this Holy Week:

Closing Prayer:

Teach your Church, O Lord, to mourn the sins of which it is guilty, and to repent and forsake them; that, by your pardoning grace, the results of our iniquities may not be visited upon our children and our children’s children; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
